Be a listening volunteer for Samaritans UK

Listening volunteers are there for anyone who needs someone. They answer more than five million calls for help each year. And they can change the course of someone’s life. But many calls to Samaritans go unanswered because they don’t have enough volunteers. That’s where you come in.

Listening volunteers undergo an extensive training and then typically do one shift of about 3 to 4 hours a week (the exact amount of time depends on the branch). Fill out the inquiry form below; next steps from there include a selection process, background check, and references. Then training begins.

Provide support and friendship for families through Home-Start

Volunteer as a family worker at Home-Start Westminster. Volunteer family workers visit families in their own homes and provide a listening ear, reassurance, help with the children, a shoulder to cry on and support parents to access local services. You’ll need to commit at least 2 hours a week to visiting a family, undertake a DBS check and complete a 40 hour (10 day) preparation course. Prep courses usually take place during term time about 3 times a year and the hours are usually 10am-2.45pm. You will also need to attend monthly supervision sessions.
